When @xtool.official reached out to me to see if I’d like to try their new F2 laser engraver, I said yes right away. You all know the core of my entire artistic practice is making things for people to hold onto and celebrate their loved ones. The entire process of loss and grief rarely goes the way we expect, especially when things happen quickly and sometimes people are only left with 2D items or images like ink prints or sonogram images. I have incorporated these physical prints on paper into my lockets when I can, but I’ve always wanted to be able to offer laser engraving services to translate these images into permanent etchings on my precious metal jewelry! My first project turned out so cute and I can’t wait to really dig into the capabilities of this machine to finally make something with my Gram’s ink prints. I never could bear to cut them up to put in a locket for myself and after six long years I’m really looking forward to making the ring I always envisioned with her fingerprint on it. Working with xTool and having this new piece of equipment in my studio is going to be a game changer for both my jewelry practice and stained glass game!
