Why a woman who gave up on foundation at 65 is back to enjoying her mornings at 69… and it had nothing to do with her face. I've been a makeup artist for over 30 years, and the message I get most often isn't about a product. It's some version of "I stopped." Not because she stopped caring… because the makeup started making things worse. One of our customers put it exactly: "I stopped wearing foundation makeup when I turned 65 because everything looked crepey" Everything. Not just one bad foundation…. all of them. And the only way she could see to fix this? Was to wear nothing at all. The thing was, it wasn't her face that was to blame. It was what the makeup was being asked to do. Here's the moment most women recognise. The base goes on fine. By the time the car mirror catches it, it has found every line and settled in… and the face looks older with makeup than without. So it gets used less and less until then it ends up staying in the drawer. She tried once more, on the strength of a video, and wrote this: "This is the first makeup I've tried that lives up to the video ad!" "Now… at 69, I enjoy getting up and beginning the day with my Aleph Beauty routine." And the line I keep coming back to: "It's a wonderful feeling to look and feel your best just for yourself!" Here's what 30 years of working on changing skin has taught me. The problem was never the face. It was that foundation is built to be painted across and to sit on top of it. Skin that has lost hydration and bounce doesn't hold makeup the same way any more and it often is left sitting on top… and it shows. So I built Aleph Beauty Concealer + Foundation to work differently. It's concentrated. You don't slather it on… you place it. Half a pea-size of it, alone or with a drop or two of Serum + Primer mixed in. It goes from "coverage" to "my skin, evened out". Then Diffuser Brush puts it only where it's needed… the redness, the shadows, the pigmentation… leaving the skin to look like skin. Less product, more nourishment, only where it's wanted. That's all and it's why women write things like: "The concealer/foundation works with my wrinkles rather than against them" "My mature (60) skin feels hydrated all day with both the serum and foundation." And my favourite, from a customer who is 80: "I am 80 and this morning a young lady said 'you look lovely this morning, your skin looks so fresh'" Notice what the compliment landed on. Her skin. Not her makeup. There's a small learning curve, because you mix rather than pump… one customer called it "a bit of a learning curve" and then said it was "actually pretty fun." So here's the routine, the way I teach it: 1. Match by photo first. Send a bare-faced photo in window light to our colour consult, or take the Shade Match quiz, and we tell you the shade. 2. Half a pea-size of Concealer + Foundation, two drops of Serum + Primer, mixed on the back of the hand. 3. Place it only where it's needed, with the brush. Redness, shadows, pigmentation. Leave the rest. 4. Build a little more where you want it… or stop. Stopping is allowed. 5. Try your shade from the sample before you open the jar. If it's wrong, we swap it. That's the difference between the drawer of jars, the 3pm mirror, the face that looked older with makeup than without, and finally nothing at all… and getting up, beginning the day with a base you can't feel, and a compliment that lands on your skin. The Essentials Edit exists for exactly this. It's Concealer + Foundation with everything it works best with: Serum + Primer, Radiance Balm, Diffuser Brush and Mixing Tool. Your shade goes in the box with samples either side of it, so the first thing you open is the sample, not the jar. Free Australian shipping on the Essentials Edit, Afterpay if that helps, and a shade swap if the sample tells you it's not right.
