At iTokri, our woolen fabrics do not appear suddenly when winter arrives. They take shape slowly across the year, gathered from the hilly regions of India and from Kutch where winters are sharp and dyes behave differently. Wool is not a quick material. It asks for patience from the spinner, from the dyer, and from our studio. Our winter collection is the result of twelve months of searching, checking, pairing, and storing fabric with care. The wool itself comes from small weaving and spinning communities in Himachal, Uttarakhand, the North East, and from artisans in Kutch who work with medium and fine count wool. Each region brings a different character. Himachal wool carries mountain warmth. Uttarakhand wool is lighter and slightly springy. Kutch wool has a dusty, earthy calmness that reflects the desert air. We open every roll in our studio, feel the texture, and understand how it drapes. Only pieces that feel breathable and comfortable on the skin become part of the curation. One of the rarest parts of our winter collection is block printed wool. Very few artisans in India print on wool because the fibre absorbs pigment unevenly and needs careful preparation before dyeing. In Kutch and parts of Rajasthan, a small group of printers still know how to handle wool with natural and mineral dyes. They adjust pressure on the blocks, dry slowly in open shade, and build patterns that settle gently into the wool instead of sitting on top. Each printed batch is small. Weather decides the outcome. No two seasons behave the same. That is why block printed wool remains rare and deeply special. Throughout the year, our team keeps in touch with weavers and printers. We do not wait for winter to start the search. We look for wool when it is scarce, when only a few metres are available, and when the artisan says the dye has turned out well. Some fabrics arrive in summer. Others in monsoon. A few only reach us close to winter because the weaving took longer than expected. We welcome these timings because real craft follows nature, not calendar deadlines. When all the pieces finally reach our studio, we begin the slow process of building the winter collection. We open every length in natural daylight. We test warmth, weight, and breathability. Wool must feel warm without suffocating the body. We avoid bulky or scratchy pieces. We choose textiles that keep comfort even during long wear. Our goal is simple. Wool should feel like a gentle layer, not a heavy cover. Because each batch is small, the winter collection is always limited. Many fabrics cannot be restocked. A block printed wool that appears this year may never be recreated in the same way. A handwoven wool from the hills may be available only in a few lengths because the weaver completed a single loom run. We do not force uniformity. We honour the natural scarcity. Every year, the woolen collection becomes one of our most meaningful projects. It gathers hilly air, desert sunlight, handwoven warmth, and rare block printing into one world. When you choose wool from iTokri, you bring home fabric shaped slowly through season, skill, and sincerity. ⸻
