One year ago today, the day after my daughter’s seventeenth birthday, I flew to Australia alone, with Parkinson’s. The promise went back to Headingley in 1981, when I was eleven and watching on the telly: one day I’d follow England round a whole Ashes tour in Australia. Nearly five years after my diagnosis The night before, I sat with ten types of medication on the coffee table and asked my wife if this was crazy. “Completely,” she said. “But it’s your idea.
