Brown does not mean sugar free. Brown does not mean sugar free. That grass isn't dead, it's dormant, and dormant plants hold onto what they've stored. Cold nights and short days shut growth down, but sunny afternoons keep sugar production going, so it piles up with nowhere to be spent. Add drought stress or a field grazed down to the nub and the short stuff your horse is hunting for can be some of the highest sugar grass in the pasture. So if you have an easy keeper or a metabolically challenged horse, fall is not the season to loosen up on turnout. What actually keeps him safer: - Limit grazing, especially on sunny days following a frost - Use a grazing muzzle - Dry lot with tested hay when you're not sure - Keep him in work, exercise is one of the best tools you have - Loop in your vet about testing and a plan Nutrition supports that plan. It does not replace it. Formula 707 MetaStable® is formulated to support healthy metabolic function in easy keepers and metabolically challenged horses and ponies, alongside good management. Veri-te™ Resveratrol, Leucine, and Pyridoxine (Vitamin B6), university studied, peer reviewed, and in a pellet they'll actually eat. Use code METASTABLE30 for 30% off your first order of MetaStable.
