WE WON. 🥂 We’d taken on a Californian legal machine—and kept our name. But the story doesn’t end there. In 2019, we filed for our EU trademark ahead of Brexit. Bacardi, who had just bought Patrón, filed an opposition. If they won, we’d have to recall every bottle sold in Europe. Unless we changed our name to... Pirate’s Frog? 🐸 (No thanks.) We fought again. Lost the first round. Hired a law firm to appeal. Another 18 months passed. Sleepless nights. Stacks of paperwork. Still no pot of gold. Then in 2023... WE WON AGAIN. We secured the EU trademark. Bacardi was even ordered to pay us. (They never did. Classic.) But the point is this: We didn’t start Pirate’s Grog just to sell rum.
