In 1930s Japan, one artist built a color dictionary the world wasn't ready for yet. Sanzo Wada spent years blending traditional Japanese color sense with Western design principles, 348 combinations built as a practical reference, not another color theory. He went on to win an Oscar, founded Japan's national color institute, and was recognized by the Japanese government for his life's work. His color dictionary remained largely untouched. He passed in 1967 with no idea what it would eventually become. In 2010, Seigensha condensed his original six volumes into a single book and released it to the world. Today his combinations are in the hands of designers, illustrators, artists, and everyday people worldwide. Nearly a century later, it's still the reference people reach for. ๐Ÿ“š 348 historically curated color combinations ๐Ÿ“– Globally recognized art publisher from Kyoto ๐Ÿ† By an Academy Award winning author
